Where Heaven Meets Earth: Week 3

BIG IDEA

In our world today, we use the word worship often. In fact, if we are not careful, worship can become so familiar that it loses its significance. You see, only God is worthy of our worship, and when we worship Him, we worship the God of the universe. This worship is something we must take seriously. He is looking for those who worship Him genuinely and authentically. Our authentic worship has a profound impact.

When you are finished, end your time praying together, thanking God for His faithfulness and goodness in each one of your lives.

GOING DEEPER

Scripture makes it clear that God is worthy of our worship. After all, there is no one like Him, and He is the one true God. In our study today, let's examine three reasons why God deserves every ounce of our worship.

God Loves Us:

God loves us. We hear this miraculous truth so often that if we are not careful, we can take His love for granted. Indeed, His love is more significant than we can even comprehend. He loves us so much that He went to extravagant lengths to rescue us when we were lost in our sins. He loves us, and He is so worthy of our worship.

1. Read Psalm 36:5-7.

Psalm 36:5-7

5 Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. 6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O Lord. 7 How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.

2. Describe God’s love based on this passage of Scripture.

3. What is the result of being loved by God, according to this passage of Scripture?

4. How does this knowledge about God in this passage of Scripture lead to worship?

God is Faithful:

We have a faithful God. Throughout our lives, He has provided for us and taken care of us time and time again. He has never let us down, and He never will. He will always be faithful to us. His faithfulness is one of the reasons why He deserves our worship.

1. Read Psalm 100:4-5.

Psalm 100:4-5

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

2. Why does the Psalmist call readers to praise God in this passage of Scripture?

3. How is God’s faithfulness described in this passage of Scripture?

4. How has God been faithful to you this week?

5. How does this knowledge about God in this passage of Scripture lead to worship?

God is the King:

Of the endless reasons why God is worthy of our worship, the top of the list is that He is the King. Not only is He the King, but He is also a good and perfect King—the King of all Kings. In response to this truth, we must worship Him as King.

1. Read Psalm 29:1-11.

Psalm 29:1-11

1 Honor the Lord, you heavenly beings; honor the Lord for his glory and strength. 2 Honor the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. 3 The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea. The God of glory thunders. The Lord thunders over the mighty sea. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. 5 The voice of the Lord splits the mighty cedars; the Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes Lebanon’s mountains skip like a calf; he makes Mount Hermon leap like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the Lord strikes with bolts of lightning. 8 The voice of the Lord makes the barren wilderness quake; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord twists mighty oaks and strips the forests bare. In his Temple everyone shouts, “Glory!” 10 The Lord rules over the floodwaters. The Lord reigns as king forever. 11 The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.
