Message Notes

Where Heaven Meets Earth: Worship as a Way of Life

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

• If we worship money, we’ll become a greedy person.

• If we worship sex, we’ll become a lustful person.

• If we worship power, we’ll become an arrogant person.

• If we worship love and acceptance, we’ll become a slave to others.

• If we worship external beauty, we’ll become shallow.

• If we worship comfort, we’ll be shaped by apathy.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

“…Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

“These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” Isaiah 29:13

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1

1. Make church a priority.

He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. Luke 4:16

2. Come on time and come prepared.

Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. Ecclesiastes 5:1

3. Participate in what is going on.

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and the lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Psalm 150:3-6
