The Other Side: What is Heaven Like?

...to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8

...It is appointed unto man once to die, and then comes the judgment. Hebrews 9:27

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. Revelation 21:1-2

The one who spoke with me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, and its gates and its wall. The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the rod, fifteen hundred miles; its length and width and height are equal. Revelation 21:15-16

The material of the wall was jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone... And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. Revelation 21:18-21

1. There is no temple in Heaven.

I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. Revelation 21:22

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

2. There is no sun, moon, or night in Heaven.

The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. Revelation 21:23-25

3. There is no sickness in Heaven.

For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. 2 Corinthians 5:1-2

So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 1 Corinthians 15:42-44

4. There is no death in Heaven.

“‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning, or crying or pain...’” Revelation 21:4

 5. There is no sin in Heaven.

“‘…for the old order of things has passed away.’” Revelation 21:4

No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. Revelation 22:3-4
