The End: When Will Jesus Return?

There are 1,845 references to the return of Jesus.

It is mentioned in 17 Old Testament books, and in 7 out of every 10 chapters in the New Testament.

Jesus spoke of His return 21 times.

… you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.  They will say, “Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation."  2 Peter 3:3-4

But they deliberately forget. 2 Peter 3:5

They intentionally overlook that long ago by God's word the Heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:8-9

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The Heavens will disappear with a roar; and the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed it’s coming. 2 Peter 3:10-12

No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Mark 13:32

God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you. 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10

1. He will execute justice.

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on Him that no one knows but he himself.  He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.  Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.  Revelation 19:11-16

2. Jesus is returning to bring relief to those who are hurting.

…He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled...  2 Thessalonians 1:6-7

…your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you. 1 Peter 4:4.

3. To glorify His name.

…on the day he comes to be glorified… 2 Thessalonians 1:10

...pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 1:12
