In Or Out: Lord Of Our Priorities

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:38-42

1. Evaluate what is important.

Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should. Psalm 90:12

…seek first his kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33-34

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Ephesians 5:15-17

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37-39

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35

Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. Psalm 119:37.

2. Eliminate what’s not important.

Make the most of every opportunity. Ephesians 5

Do I really understand this commitment?
How does this fit into my current goals and priorities?
Do I have the time, energy, and resources?
What impact will this have on me in a year? In five years? In ten years? For eternity?
How will this impact those I love? Who will it help? Who will it hurt?

Show me, O Lord, my life's end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. Psalm 39:4
