I Quit: Comparing My Life to Everyone Else’s

1. Envy robs us of our relationships

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight... James 4:1-2

2. Envy takes the joy out of living

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. Proverbs 14:30

3. Envy blows our situation out of proportion

...“Give me children, or I’ll die!” Genesis 30:1

Where you have envy… there you find disorder and every evil practice. James 3:16

We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12

1. Be grateful for what you do have.

2. Be satisfied in Jesus.

“Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good— except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’” “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.” Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!” Luke 18:18-27

I will be content when ___________ .

I will have enough when __________ happens.
