Habit: Thoughts Become Words


1. We said we are going to rely on God.
2. We said that we are going to be specific.
3. We are going to stop telling ourselves that we don’t have what it takes to make these changes.

What you think about the most is what you are becoming.

Our life will always move in the direction of our strongest thoughts. 

"No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.  Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.  People do not pick figs from thorn-bushes or grapes from briers.  Good people bring good things out of the good stored up in their heart, and evil people bring evil things out of the evil stored up in their heart.  For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks". Luke 6:43-45

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

•I can’t change. I can’t pull this off. 
“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

•This addiction is too strong. I will always be this way. 
“I am more than a conqueror because of Jesus.”

•I have no value. I don’t matter. 
“You were knit together in your mother's womb. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.”

•God could never love me.
“Nothing can separate you from the love of God. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

•“Every day this world tells us that life is about me. Life is about what I can get, what I can achieve, who I can impress, what I can possess, where I live, what I drive, how much education I have, how much money I make, who knows my name, and how successful I am.” - Chip Ingram

•When you have the thought that money will buy you happiness you need to remember the truth of Ecclesiastes 5:10. 
“Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income.”

•When you think you need to reach for that bottle to fill you up inside, remember Ephesians 5:18.
“Do not get drunk on wine which leads to debauchery but be filled with the spirit of God.”  

•When you feel like you have to have more of this or that to be content, remember Philippians 4:12.
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

“…Take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ.” - 2 Corinthians 10:5

•Rather than being anxious and worried this next week, you remember to cast your cares upon the Lord because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)

•When you think that God could never love someone like you, remember John 3:16. 
“For God so loved you that he gave his only son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” 

•If you keep telling yourself you can’t, remember that God can.
"God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21
