Deliberate: The Final Hours of Jesus' Life

“My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch.” Matthew 26:38

…face down on the ground Jesus prayed, “My father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine.” Matthew 26:39

“Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” Matthew 26:53

“Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.” Luke 22:52-53

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. Isaiah 53:6-7

“He stirs up the people, teaching all over Judea, starting from Galilee, even as far as this place”. Luke 23:5

I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from insult and spitting. Isaiah 50:6

The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. Mark 15:16

“…If you release this man you are no friend of Caesar’s; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar.” John 19:12

“On that day…I will make the sun go down at noon, and darken the earth in broad daylight…I will make it like the mourning for an only son, and the end of it like a bitter day.” Amos 8:9-10

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

“Father, into your hands, I commit my spirit” …and then Jesus died. Luke 23:46

“Greater love has no one than this: that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

Deliberate: Jesus is the One we Need

...sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a donkey tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it.’” Luke 19:29-31

...“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna!” John 12:13

“Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” Luke 19:39

“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Luke 19:40

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.” Luke 19:41-42

The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.” Luke 19:43-44
