Mark, 1st and 2nd Timothy, Titus, 1st and 2nd Corinthians: Week 6

Mrk,1 Tim, 2 Tim, Tit, 1 Cor, and 2 Cor: Week 6

1st Corinthians 1-7

It’s week 6 of this By the Book Course, and we have covered a lot of ground over the last 6 weeks. So far, we have read 1st and 2nd Timothy, Titus, Mark, and chapters 1–7 of 1st Corinthians. Last week, you read 1st Corinthians 1–7, Scripture that reminds us that Christ followers are called to live differently than the rest of the world. Today, we will discuss what God taught us as we read the first seven chapters of 1st Corinthians.

1ST CORINTHIANS 1–7

1. What particularly impacted you during your Bible study reading this week?

2. Look at 1st Corinthians 2. What was Paul’s message and demeanor as He shared Christ with the church in Corinth?

3. What problems among the church in Corinth did Paul address throughout these chapters of 1st Corinthians? (There are more than one!)

4. Read 1st Corinthians 5:9–13. What does this passage of Scripture teach about how we are to live our lives and hold each other accountable as members of the church?

5. Read 1st Corinthians 6:19–20. Summarize Paul’s teaching in this passage of Scripture. What does it look like to obey this teaching in our world today?

Paul said in 1st Corinthians 4:16, “I urge you to imitate me.” Paul was so confident that he was honoring Christ by the way he lived His life that He urged his readers to follow his example. What about your own life? Take some time to evaluate whether you are setting an example for those around you of what it looks like to follow Christ. Are there any inconsistencies in your life when it comes to what you say you believe and how you live? After reflecting, share with your group one step you can take starting this week living a life worth imitating that points those around you to Christ.

Assignment for Next Week:

Read 1st Corinthians chapters 8–14 using your Study Bible. Read the Bible study notes that correspond with the passage of Scripture you are reading. As you read, use your journal we provided for you to complete the SOAP method for each chapter of 1st Corinthians that you read.
