Welcome back to week 4 of this By the Book course, where we are studying the books of 1st and 2nd Timothy, Titus, Mark, and 1st and 2nd Corinthians. Now that you have completed last week’s homework, you have finished the book of Mark and began reading the book of 1st Timothy. You read about Jesus’ earth shattering resurrection from the grave in Mark 16. Then, you read the first 6 chapters of 1st Timothy, a book that reminds us to take our faith seriously by the way we live our lives, both in the church and in our private lives.
Watch the 1st and 2nd Timothy and Titus Introduction Video, where pastor Todd will introduce the books of 1st and 2nd Timothy. The books of 1st and 2nd Timothy are a gift to us. They contain some of the last words written by the apostle Paul before his death in Rome where he was killed for preaching and teaching in the name of Jesus. The book of Titus reminds us to live out, study, and teach the truth from God’s word.
Mark 16 & 1st Timothy 1-6 Discussion:
1. What particularly impacted you during your Bible study reading this week?
2. Describe the different responses of the women and Jesus’ disciples to His resurrection.
3. After reading 1st Timothy 2–6, summarize Paul’s instructions for how members of the church are to live.
4. Read 1st Timothy 4:8. According to this passage of Scripture, how can we today “train for godliness?”
5. Read 1st Timothy 6:11. What would it look like in our lives today to take this instruction seriously?
Take some time now to think about one specific, measurable, and attainable step that you can take to, as Paul wrote in 1st Timothy 4:8, “train for godliness.” Share that step with your group. After everyone has shared, pray together. Pray for each other to have the courage to take these steps to train for godliness so that you all can lead well and set an example for everyone around you by the way you live your lives.
