It is week 3 of this By the Book course, and we have almost finished the entire book of Mark. Last week, you read Mark 9–15, action-packed chapters of Mark that remind us of Jesus’ divinity as well as His servant leadership during His three-year ministry on earth. Let’s get ready to talk about what we learned as we read through Mark chapters 9–15.
Jesus not only taught about living a lifestyle of service, He showed us how to serve by the way He lived His life. He even gave up His own life so that He could rescue all who believe in Him from sin and death. As His followers, we, too, must serve. What is one way you can follow His example and serve this week? Do you know someone going through a difficult time, find a way this week to serve them. Maybe you can sign up to serve during our weekend services at Sagebrush with Guest Services or in Kid’s Planet. Whatever it looks like for you, share with your group how you will follow Jesus’ example of serving this week.
Read Mark chapter 16 and 1st Timothy 1–6* using your Study Bible. Read the Bible study notes that correspond with the passage of Scripture you are reading. As you read, use your journal we provided for you to complete the SOAP method for each chapter of Mark and 1st Timothy that you read. **Before you dive into studying the book of 1st Timothy, take time to read the introduction to 1st Timothy in your Study Bible. As you read, answer the questions below.
1. Who is the author and audience of 1st Timothy? 2. What is the purpose of 1st Timothy? 3. What are some of the key themes of 1st Timothy?
