Mark, 1st and 2nd Timothy, Titus, 1st and 2nd Corinthians: Class Overview

Mrk,1 Tim, 2 Tim, Tit, 1 Cor, and 2 Cor: Class Overview

We are thrilled you have chosen to lead this How to Study the Bible course. Our hope and prayer is that you By the Book is a series of small group material that covers the New Testament Reading Plan with one goal in mind - to get people reading one chapter of the Bible everyday. God’s Word is intended for transformation, not information. There are two components to this small group material: 1. Encouraging small group members to spend time in God’s Word everyday and 2. To facilitate discussion during small group time that reviews the previous weeks’ reading and SOAP among group members and keeps group members accountable and encouraged.

Note: During small group time, the priority is first to review each chapter read throughout the past week. Review the 4 questions and use this time to answer any questions that come up. If you are not able to answer the questions using the resources in a Life Application Study Bible, feel free to reach out to our Pastoral Care team by calling or texting 505-922-9200 and we are happy to help answer questions. Sample questions to cover during the discussion portion could include (remember to discuss chapter by chapter, one at a time):

• Is there anything new you learned?
• Was there something that you felt convicted about that you need to change?
• Is there anything that encouraged you?

The Small Group Questions provided in this playbook are intended to be used after the group completes their discussion and review time to dig into deeper levels of discussion and discipleship. Use these as you need them or want to, but don’t feel like you need to rush through the review time to get to these questions. As people who love and have committed our lives to following Jesus, we want to continually have the conversation about what our next step of obedience is. Use these questions as a guideline and not as a rule as you lead your small group through discussion time. You may find that one week you get through the review section quickly and other weeks you spend your entire group time discussing the review.

RESOURCES

We recommend that each group member have access to a Life Application Study Bible and a SOAP Journal/ Planner. Both can be purchased through the Sagebrush Bookstore. The Life Application Bible has study resources to help us better understand what we read which is why we recommend this Bible. The SOAP Journal/Planner provides the resources for group members to record their SOAP each day and have it all in one place. We sell these at our Bookstore for the price that we get them.

Every book of the Bible has an intro video that can be accessed through a youtube link within the material. The weekly Small Group Material will explain when to share these videos with your group members. The first week will take a little longer to get through as you review the SOAP process and go through Mark chapter 1 together as a group. Use this time to show your group members how to use the SOAP method of studying God’s Word.
