Where Heaven Meets Earth: Week 1 - Saturday

Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord! Psalm 150:6

In our Bible study this week, we have reflected on God’s strength, power, and goodness. Indeed, God created the world and everything in it, and He holds the world in His hands. There is no one like Him. The truth of God’s power and strength demands a response. Specifically, it demands our worship. Because of who God is and all that He has done, we must worship Him, both individually and together as a church.

The writer of Psalm 150 understood that God's power and strength must lead to worship. In this passage of Scripture, He wrote, "Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty heaven!" (verse 1). He continues the Psalm by telling us why we can praise God, saying, "Praise Him for His mighty works; praise His unequaled greatness!" (verse 2). In other words, we can praise God because of all of the incredible miracles that He has done and because there is no one greater than Him. As the writer of this Psalm continues, he instructs readers to praise God with “the ram’s horn,” lyre, harp, tambourine, dancing, and cymbals (verses 3-5). The list of all of these different ways of worship helps us to see that we are to praise God with everything! As Psalm 150 comes to an end, the psalmist concludes, "Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!" (verse 6). This verse not only concluded Psalm 150, but it also concluded the entire book of Psalms. What a right and true ending for this book of the Bible. Because of who God is and the great and wonderful things He has done, He is so worthy of all of the praise that every living being who has breath can offer Him. This praise can be private, just between you and God when you are alone. It can also be corporate, where you worship alongside other believers, praising God together for His goodness and faithfulness. Both expressions of worship are important for followers of Christ.

God is so worthy of your worship, my friend. He is the King of all kings. He is so powerful and so majestic that we do not have adequate human words to describe His grandeur and power. Not only is He so powerful and majestic, but He is also good. He is good to you. If you look for His goodness throughout your life and the ways He has cared and provided for you, you will find it. Will you commit to living a life full of worship to God, your creator, and the One in control of it all? “Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!”
