Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7
One of the most beautiful things about God, and there are many beautiful things about Him, is His level of care and concern for people. He is not an uncaring or indifferent God regarding our struggles and heartache. As we saw in the story of the demon-possessed man in Luke 8, He has compassion and healing power to work in our lives. He cares and invites us to come to Him. This, my friends, makes all the difference.
One of Jesus' 12 disciples wrote about Jesus' care and compassion in 1 Peter 5. In his letter, He wrote, "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." When it comes to our trials, suffering, and heartbreak, Peter called readers to give "all" of our concerns to God. That means that there is nothing that we cannot bring to Him. As we say here at Sagebrush, if it matters to you, it matters to Him. Nothing is off the table when bringing our worries and heartaches to Him. Why? Peter tells us at the end of 1 Peter 5:7, “He cares about you.” God cares about us. He is heartbroken when we are heartbroken. He cares when we are concerned, sad, happy, and heartbroken. God cares about us. Jesus demonstrated His care and concern for people in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” We are always invited to give our burdens to Jesus, and He promises us rest in return.
Not only does Peter explain that God cares about us in 1 Peter 5, but he also continues in this chapter by explaining that after suffering, God will "restore, support, and strengthen you, and He will place you on a firm foundation" (verse 10). This restoration and support demonstrate the level of care God has for you. He not only cares, but He puts His care and concern into action. One of the ways He shows His care is by restoring us and giving us strength.
My friend, God cares for you. He cares about the big and small concerns you have and everything in between. He also walks alongside you and strengthens you when you face difficult times and find yourself in desperate situations. May you find comfort in His care and support today.
Memorize 1 Peter 5:7 today. Let this verse remind you that you have a God who cares for you and is present in your time of suffering and during your disappointments and heartbreaks. Then, follow the instructions in this verse. Bring your cares to Him and tell Him what you are concerned about. Remember, He wants to hear from you.
James 1:19-27
"Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. 21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.
22 But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don't obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
26 If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. 27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you."
