What If: Week 3 - Saturday

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. Psalm 23:1

There are many reasons why we may feel tired. Maybe we have not slept long enough. Perhaps we are tired after finishing a challenging task at work. Sometimes, we feel tired because of life circumstances. Many times, we feel tired because we are trying to balance everything in life on our own. Trying to live on our own is, indeed, exhausting. There is a better way, however: letting God guide us. When we follow Him and His leading, we find rest.

David, a man who wrote many Psalms, wrote about the rest he found following God as his shepherd in Psalm 23. In this passage of Scripture, he said, "The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need" (verse 1). David declared that God was his shepherd. That meant that David was one of His sheep. David was a former shepherd boy turned king, so he deeply understood the shepherd-sheep relationship. Writing about his experience as one of God’s sheep, David wrote, “He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams” (verse 1). In other words, following God as his shepherd led to rest. We, too, can experience the rest that God brings if we let Him lead and guide us. As a shepherd, God guides us toward places of rest and refreshment. As His sheep, we can always trust where He is leading us. Even more, when we follow Him and His leading, we find rest.

Do you need rest today? It is time to follow God and His leading rather than trying to live life on your own. It is time to let Him guide you toward rest, peace, and refreshment. He is your shepherd who loves you and went to great lengths to rescue you as any good shepherd would. You can always trust His leading and guidance. Follow the Lord as your shepherd today and find rest in green meadows and peaceful shores.

Moving Toward Action

One way we can follow God as our shepherd is to worship Him. Make plans to attend one of our weekend services this weekend and worship Him, your Good Shepherd. As you follow Him and His leading, you will find rest.

Going Deeper

Jude 1:17-25

17 But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ predicted. 18 They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires. 19 These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them.

20 But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.

22 And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. 23 Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.

24 Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. 25 All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.
