Any good father will do anything to protect his child. If his child in a dangerous situation, he will fight to protect him or her without a second thought. The same thing is true about God, our perfect Heavenly Father. When we were lost, helpless, and stuck in our sin, God came to our rescue and offered us freedom from sin and death.
Scripture makes it clear that from the moment sin entered the world, God made a plan to rescue people from it so that those who believe in Him can have eternal life with Him. The culmination of that plan was sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross. The apostle Paul put it this way: “Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for an especially good person. But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (verses 7-8). What a beautiful truth! While we were trapped in sin, Christ came and died. Although sinless, He paid the price demanded for sin, death. As a result, when we place our faith in Him, we have eternal life with Him instead of death. As Paul said, “Since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from God’s condemnation” (verse 9). How incredible is this truth! If we place our faith in Christ and turn away from our sins, we have no condemnation. God did everything to rescue us.
Yes, we are all sinners, and the consequence of sin is death. This is sobering news. But there is good news. God did not leave us there. He is our rescuer or redeemer. Because of Jesus, we can have eternal life in Him. Truly, in Christ, there is no condemnation.
Write out a prayer to God. Thank Him for all He has done for you. Thank Him that He came to rescue you when you were stuck in your sin. Thank Him for forgiveness, life, and salvation that is in Him. You have a God who went to impossible lengths to rescue you.
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
