I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:19-20
What do you think about when you hear the word "power?" Do you think of a person who is powerful in the eyes of the world? Do you think of a powerful force of nature, such as an earthquake or tsunami? Many things are considered powerful by this world's standards, but nothing is more powerful than God. Not even sin and death are more powerful than our God.
Paul wrote about God’s great power in Ephesians 1. He told his readers, “I…pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him" (verse 19). Paul's prayer for believers in Ephesus and us was that they would understand the extent of the power of the God they serve. He continued, "This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms” (verses 19-20). Do not miss the truth from this passage of Scripture: God's same death-defeating, sin-defeating power for you is the power that raised Jesus from the dead.
If you have ever doubted God's power in your life, look no further than Ephesians 1:19-20. God is working mightily in your life. His power is what brought you to have faith in Him in the first place. His power is what works in you when you share your faith and invite others to follow Him.
Because of God’s great power, we can live confidently and securely in Him, knowing that no one can stop Him. He defeated sin and death. There is nothing He cannot do. May you choose to live boldly for Him, knowing that no one or nothing can stop our God.
Take a bold step today, knowing that your God is all-powerful. He is more powerful than anything, even sin and death. Share your faith with someone today who needs His hope. Share your two-minute story of the difference Christ has made in your life. Be sure to pray for God to work and move mightily as you share your faith in Him.
Ephesians 1:16-23
16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. 21 Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. 22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
