And after Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul spent all his time preaching the word. He testified to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah. Acts 18:5
Before we can build strong relationships, we have to be secure in who we are. Specifically, we have to be secure in who we are in Christ. The best thing we can do for any relationship is be rooted in Christ. This is particularly true in our marriages. When we are secure and grounded in our relationship with Christ, our marriages will be stronger and healthier.
We find in Acts 18 that Priscilla and Aquila each had relationships with Christ. You see, when Paul entered the city of Corinth, he began teaching people about Christ. He taught them that Christ was the Messiah, the Son of God. Among the people, there were Priscilla and Aquila, a husband and wife. During this time, they learned from Paul and became friends and partners with him. They learned about Christ and shared about Him with others. They developed personal relationships with Christ and had a profound impact on Christianity.
Before any of our relationships can be strong, we must have strong relationships with Christ. This includes our marriages. If we want to have strong marriages, we must be firmly rooted in Christ. If we want to have any healthy relationships, we must ground ourselves in Christ.
As followers of Christ, I believe that we all want to be grounded and rooted in Christ. I think we all want to have deep, thriving relationships with Him. It is not enough, however, to want to have a deep relationship with Christ. We must work to have these deep and thriving relationships with Him. This means reading our Bibles, talking to Him, and growing in community with people. May we always be people who never stop growing, learning and thriving in our relationships with Christ.
The most important thing we will ever do with our lives is to make the decision to follow Jesus and ground ourselves in Him. Take a few minutes right now, reflecting on your two-minute story of what God has done in your life, and when you started following Him. As you remember God's faithfulness to you, thank Him for all that He has done for you.
Read Acts 18:1-6 (NLT)
Then Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. There he became acquainted with a Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, who had recently arrived from Italy with his wife, Priscilla. They had left Italy when Claudius Caesar deported all Jews from Rome. Paul lived and worked with them, for they were tentmakers just as he was.
Each Sabbath found Paul at the synagogue, trying to convince the Jews and Greeks alike. And after Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul spent all his time preaching the word. He testified to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah. But when they opposed and insulted him, Paul shook the dust from his clothes and said, “Your blood is upon your own heads—I am innocent. From now on I will go preach to the Gentiles.”
