Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6
We heard in the weekend message that seemingly “unanswered” prayers often prompt people to give up praying because these “unanswered” prayers leave them feeling unheard and discouraged. The truth is, however, as we have learned in our Bible study together this week, God responds to our prayers according to His unlimited knowledge and our needs. That means that sometimes He answers, “Yes,” and other times He says, “Wait” or “No.” This reminder that God answers our prayers according to our needs and His great knowledge should motivate us to keep praying without giving up, knowing that our Heavenly Father hears and responds to our prayers accordingly.
The apostle Paul encourages us to be people of prayer in Philippians 4. Amidst all of our struggles and difficulties, Paul echoed Jesus’ words in Matthew 6, saying “Don’t worry about anything” (verse 6). This teaching goes against human nature, which is to worry about everything. Followers of Christ, however, are called to live differently from the rest of the world, and that means letting go of worry. Instead of worrying, Paul wrote, “Pray about everything” (verse 6). This invitation from God to pray about anything and everything is remarkable. He never tires of hearing our worries and concerns. We can talk to Him about everything on our minds, including our worries, large and small. This is what it looks like to pray persistently: praying all the time about everything, never giving up or stopping our prayers, expressing all that is on our minds to our Heavenly Father.
As Paul gave the command not to worry in Philippians 6, he also gave this promise from God: When we pray, we experience His unmatched peace. Paul wrote, “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” (verse 7). When we pray about every thought, need, and concern we have, God gives us His great peace, which is greater than any peace that can be found on this earth.
As we present our needs and concerns to God, we must not give up. We must keep bringing our needs and requests before God, praying about everything. We never know how God might be working in ways we cannot see. Will you pray persistently? If you will, you will be met with the remarkable peace of God.
Commit today to praying persistently. Pray about that request or need you have felt like giving up on. Pray consistently, remembering that God hears and responds to your prayers according to His perfect knowledge and according to your needs. Commit to continuing this habit of praying persistently so that it becomes a habit in your life.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work.
2 Now I appeal to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement. 3 And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. They worked along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are written in the Book of Life.
4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
