But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, "How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!" Romans 10:14-15
Whenever I find a new product or item that I love, I immediately want to tell my friends and family members. In my mind, this thing can benefit the people I love in some particular way, and I want to be sure that they know about it. Friends, if I want to tell everyone about frivolous things that I find to be beneficial, helpful, or useful, how much more should I want to tell everyone I encounter about Jesus, the greatest thing that has ever happened to me?
As a church, we have been talking a lot about sharing our faith with those around us. Now, at the beginning of a new year, let's re-focus our thoughts and prayerfully commit to telling those around us the good news of Jesus Christ this year. What if, because of your commitment and the saving work of Jesus, 2020 became the year that you saw others come to Christ? If we truly believe that those without a relationship are lost, why wouldn't we do everything we could to tell them about salvation in Jesus?
In Romans 10, the apostle Paul writes that "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (verse 13). He continues that thought in verses 14 and 15 by asking how someone can believe in Jesus if no one has ever told them about Him. The implied answer is "they can't." In the same breath, Paul then asks how anyone can tell someone about Jesus if no one has ever been sent to share their faith in Him with them. Again, the implied answer is "they can't." According to Paul, people are in desperate need of the salvation, but that salvation will almost always occur because someone, through the Holy Spirit's power and leading, had the boldness to tell them about Christ. What Paul said in these verses in Romans is still true today. People are waiting to hear about God, but how can they hear if no one tells them? How can someone tell them about Jesus unless someone actually goes to him or her and shares their faith with that person? My friends, will you be the person to share the good news with those who are lost?
Do you still have your list of five people in your life who do not know Christ that you were challenged to make toward the end of last year? If not, make that list right now. Look at your list. Spend time in prayer for those on your list, asking God for opportunities to have meaningful conversations with them. When the opportunities arrive, use them to share the good news of Jesus Christ with them.
Read Romans 10:9-16 (NLT)
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said, “Lord, who has believed our message?”
