What is one thing you believe that the world needs today? With all of the chaos taking place in the world right now, there are many things that this world needs today. Of all of the things that the world needs today, peace is at the top of my list. There are many today carrying burdens that need God's peace. There is so much conflict taking place in the world right now where God's peace is needed. In the spiritual battles, God's peace is also desperately needed in order to fight against the enemy and his schemes.
The apostle Paul teaches us to put on peace as part of God’s armor to fight against the devil in the spiritual battles taking place around us. He writes, “For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared” (verse 14). Peace is meant to carry us with each step we take in the battle against the enemy. When we pick up God’s peace as armor, Scripture tells us that we are “fully prepared” to fight in the spiritual battles taking place all around us.
When thinking about armor to take into war, peace is probably not the first thing that comes to your mind. However, God’s peace equips us in the fight against our enemy, the devil. God’s peace is different from the world’s peace. It is powerful and equips us for the spiritual battles that are taking place. In the book of Philippians, the apostle Paul explained just how God’s peace impacts us. In this passage of Scripture, he explains that when we pray, we experience God's peace (verses 6-7). Paul writes that God's peace "exceeds anything we can understand" (verse 7). It gives us quiet confidence in Him even when things are difficult and allows us to trust Him during the most trying times we face. Ultimately, God’s peace “will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus,” Paul writes. It protects our hearts and minds, which is critical in the war that is taking place all around us.
Do you remember how we have God’s peace? Philippians 6 tells us that we experience God’s peace by praying to God, our Heavenly Father. Turn to Him today in prayer, and experience the peace that comes from turning to Him.
Take time now to follow the teaching in Philippians 4 and pray. Pray about everything you are worried about. Ask God to equip you and go with you as you face the spiritual attacks of the enemy and for His peace to guard your heart and mind.
1Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work.
2 Now I appeal to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement. 3 And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. They worked along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are written in the Book of Life.
4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
