I Quit: Week 1 - Friday

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8

We human beings are flawed. Try as we might, we will never be perfect. We will make mistakes. God, on the other hand, is perfect. He makes no mistakes. That means that when He gives you a calling, you are just the right person for the job. Even your weaknesses do not disqualify you. He has designed you perfectly and uniquely for the calling that He has placed on your life.

The apostle Paul reminded readers that they were perfectly created by God in Ephesians 2. In this passage of Scripture, He wrote, "God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it" (verses 8-9). Indeed, God's salvation is a result of nothing we have done to earn it. It is God's gift to us. Why? Paul continued, explaining, "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago" (verse 10). Pay close attention to the word Paul used to describe us in this passage of Scripture. We are God's masterpiece, His prized works of art. When He sees us, He sees His masterpieces. We were created "so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago" (verse 10). Not only are we masterpieces, but we were created perfectly so that we can live out the callings He has placed on our lives.

David describes how God feels about us in Psalm 139. In this passage, he writes, "Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it… How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered" (verses 14-17). Indeed, God’s thoughts toward us are precious.

God makes no mistakes, my friend. He made no mistake when He made you His masterpiece. That means that you are just the right person for the job God has placed on your heart. Will you step into His calling today?

Moving Toward Action

Read Psalm 139 three times. Let the truth from Scripture fill your heart and mind as you read. Let the truth that you were created on purpose for a purpose, just as you are, embolden you to live out the call He has placed on your life. God makes no mistakes. He has chosen you just as you are to serve and follow Him.

Going Deeper

Ephesians 2:8-13

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

11 Don’t forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders. You were called “uncircumcised heathens” by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts. 12 In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. 13 But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.
