It has been said that the strength of our faith rests in the strength of the object we place our faith in. For example, if I place my faith in my ability to solve a complex math problem, my faith would be very weak. Math was never a strength of mine. If a mathematician is the one solving the problem, however, my faith in them solving the problem is much stronger. All joking aside, the strength of our faith truly resides on the object of our faith. If our faith is in God, the all-powerful Creator of the universe, we have reason to be strong and unshakable.
The author of Psalm 148 recognized God's power. He wrote, "Let every created thing give praise to the Lord, for He issued His command, and they came into being” (verse 5). God is all-powerful, He created the world and everything in it. He continued in this chapter saying, “Let them all praise the name of the Lord. For His name is very great; His glory towers over the earth and heaven!” (verse 13). His power and glory are matchless. He deserves all of the praise and honor. Not only does He deserve all of the praise and honor, but He also deserves our faithfulness. Even more, we can have confident faith in Him because we know He can do all things. This chapter ends by telling us that "He has made His people strong, honoring His faithful ones” (verse 14a). God gives strength to His people. He honors those who remain faithful.
My friend, we serve a powerful God. As a result, we can have the utmost confidence in Him. As we place our faith in Him, He will strengthen us and give us confidence in His plan. Is there an area of faith where you are struggling to trust God? Take heart in God's power and strength which is revealed in Psalm 148. He knows what He is doing, and, in fact, “He [does] everything well” (Mark 7:37, NIV).
Spend some time reading from the going deeper section below. As you read, reflect on the power of God. How have you seen God’s power displayed in your life? How does His power strengthen your faith today? After reflecting, write out a prayer of praise to God, acknowledging His strength and power throughout the whole world.
Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens
and you waters above the skies.
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for at his command they were created,
and he established them for ever and ever—
he issued a decree that will never pass away.
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
stormy winds that do his bidding,
you mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
wild animals and all cattle,
small creatures and flying birds,
kings of the earth and all nations,
you princes and all rulers on earth,
young men and women,
old men and children.
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
And he has raised up for his people a horn,
the praise of all his faithful servants,
of Israel, the people close to his heart.
Praise the Lord.
