The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” Psalm 32:8
Have you ever noticed how willing children are to ask for help? When there is something they know they cannot do on their own, they will often ask for help. This is often not the case with adults. Somewhere in between childhood and adulthood, it appears that many of us have lost the willingness to turn to others for help, trying to do everything on our own. The truth is, God offers us a better way. He is there to walk with us when we need help, especially when we need wisdom and help to make decisions.
Throughout Scripture, we are encouraged to turn to God when we are looking for wisdom. David wrote about this in Psalm 32. In this verse, he wrote, “The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you’” (verse 8). Notice the confidence with which David wrote those words. Without a shadow of a doubt, he knew that God guides and advises us as we seek to make wise decisions. David’s son, Solomon, understood this too. When he was the king, God asked him what he wanted. Solomon could have asked for wealth, good friendships, successful leadership, fame, or love, but instead, he asked for wisdom, and God was pleased with his request. To this day, Solomon is known for his wisdom. God clearly gives wisdom to those who are seeking it.
As we think about our desire for wisdom in decision-making, it is clear that wisdom is available to us. However, there is something we must remember. We must ask for it. In the New Testament, James wrote it this way, “if you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking” (verse 5). This verse leaves no doubts. God is generous, and He will give us wisdom when we ask. We can ask God for wisdom confidently.
Do you need wisdom today as you make decisions? Turn to God. Ask Him for wisdom. Ask confidently, understanding that God is generous and He gives wisdom when we ask for it. Turn to Him for wisdom today.
Over the last few days, if you have been following these daily devotions, we have been thinking about the decisions we have to make and where we need wisdom. If you have not already, make a list of the decisions you are thinking through now. Then, bring them to God. Pray and ask Him for wisdom as you seek guidance. Remember, Scripture promises that He will give wisdom to all who ask for it.
Read Psalm 32:1-11(NLT)
Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt.I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude
Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment. For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. Interlude
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord.So rejoice in the Lord and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!
