Greater Than Week 3 Monday

"And don't be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don't worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs." Luke 22:29-30

What are you worried about today? Is there something on your mind that you simply cannot stop thinking about? Maybe your answer is "no," and now you are worried that you are not worried about something. Statistics say that around 60 percent of adults struggle with worry daily. In other words, most people are walking through life worried about something, if not many things. The truth is that there is a much better way for us than walking through life worried. Scripture teaches us not to worry at all.

Jesus taught about worry in Luke 12. As He taught, He commanded, "And don't be concerned about what to eat and what to drink" (verse 29). I do not know about you, but these things seem to be pretty important things to worry about. They are, after all, necessities for life. If we are not to worry about having the basic necessities of life, it stands to reason that there is nothing for us to worry about. The question is, why? Jesus explains why we do not need to worry. "Your Father already knows your needs" (verse 30). God knows. He knows our needs, and if He knows our needs, He will provide for our needs, even if it looks different than we expected.

When Jesus taught about worry in Luke 12, He explained that when followers of Christ worry, we are actually behaving like unbelievers. We are acting as if we do not have a God who promised to provide for us. I do not know about you, but I want to live a lifestyle that points to my Heavenly Father. I want others to see Him through my actions. We have a Heavenly Father; will we trust Him to provide?

MOVING TOWARD ACTION

What specifically are you worried about today? Spend some time thinking about the things that you are overwhelmed with right now. This may not be fun, but it will be helpful and healing. We have to understand what we are really worried about to take steps to let go of that worry. As you name your worries, think of one way God is capable of taking care of you despite your worries.

GOING DEEPER

Read Luke 12:29-34(NLT)

“And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.

“So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.

“Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
