Christmas at Sagebrush 2025: Wednesday

For through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16

One of the first things we learn about God in Scripture is that He is a creator. In fact, the first chapter of the first book of the Bible, Genesis, says, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (verse 1). God created everything on earth and in heaven. His handiwork is in everything. On this Christmas Eve, the remarkable truth we must remember is that, because Jesus is God, He was also present at the creation of the world. That means that when Jesus was born, He came into the world He created. What a remarkable truth to consider!

As He wrote about Jesus and His supremacy in Colossians 1, Paul explained that Jesus was present at creation. Paul wrote in this passage of Scripture, “Through Him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through Him and for Him” (verse 16). This teaching about Jesus is amazing. Jesus was right there, present as the world and everything in it was created. Even more, Jesus was an active part of creation. God the Father created everything through Jesus.

Based on our Scripture reading today, everything was created through Jesus and for Jesus. All of the beauty we see as we observe creation points us to His power and glory. As David wrote in Psalm 19, "The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display His craftsmanship" (verse 1). This Christmas Eve, let’s worship Him, who created the world and everything in it, came to the earth He created, and conquered sin and death.

Moving Toward Action

Today, listen to your favorite worship song. As you listen, sing along and worship Christ, who is worthy of all the worship you can bring Him. Worship Him for all He has done, from creating the world and paying the price to rescue you from sin and death.

Going Deeper

Psalm 19:1-14

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
    The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
    night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
    their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
    and their words to all the world.

God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding.
    It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.
The sun rises at one end of the heavens
    and follows its course to the other end.
    Nothing can hide from its heat.

The instructions of the Lord are perfect,
    reviving the soul.
The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy,
    making wise the simple.
The commandments of the Lord are right,
    bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
    giving insight for living.
Reverence for the Lord is pure,
    lasting forever.
The laws of the Lord are true;
    each one is fair.
10 They are more desirable than gold,
    even the finest gold.
They are sweeter than honey,
    even honey dripping from the comb.
11 They are a warning to your servant,
    a great reward for those who obey them.

12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?
    Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins!
    Don’t let them control me.
Then I will be free of guilt
    and innocent of great sin.

14 May the words of my mouth
    and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing to you,
    O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
