And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:25
Here at Sagebrush, we believe that life change happens best in Small Groups. For those of us who are in a Small Group at Sagebrush, we all have stories of how our Small Group has encouraged us and helped us draw near to Christ. When we live in community with other believers, we can encourage each other, pray for each other, support each other, and hold each other accountable. The truth is, we all need each other, which is why Hebrews 10 calls us to continue living in community together.
Beginning with Hebrews 10:19, the writer of Hebrews encourages believers to persevere in their faith. He calls them to continue going to God, confessing their sin, and hoping in Him. They are to motivate each other in their faith and do good, he writes. Next, he urges believers, "Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near." Because he believes that Christ is returning, he calls believers to encourage each other and meet together as they wait for His return. My friends, although much time has passed since the book of Hebrews was written, the same truth from Hebrews 10 is true for us today. We are to continue meeting and encouraging each other until Christ returns. Being in community helps us hold each other accountable to live lives of integrity as we strive to live lives honoring to God.
What about you? Are you involved in a Small Group or an intentional community of believers where you are able to encourage each other in your faith? If not, what is holding you back? If you are involved in a Small Group, are you willing to be vulnerable and share with others your struggles and listen to their struggles as well? Choose today to invest in a small group of believers so that you can walk through this life together until Christ returns.
Take time this week to spend time with a believer who encourages you in your faith. Get a cup of coffee, go on a walk, or share a meal with them. Share with them what you are facing in your life and be willing to listen to their story also. Next, set aside time this week to spend time with a person in your life who is not a believer. If the opportunity arises, share with them the difference God has made in your life.
Read Hebrews 10:19-25 (NLT)
And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
