100% Week 2 Monday

When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am John 14:3

Reasoning with a child can be funny at times. The other day my three-year-old niece insisted that I not put a lid on her drink. "I won't spill it, I promise," she said. I did not believe her, and for a good reason! She is so little that I had a feeling that if I did not put a lid on her drink, she would eventually spill it. Because of it, her promise held very little weight. The truth is, even grown-ups make well-intentioned promises that they cannot keep. We do our best to be true to our word, but we will sometimes let people down. That sentence was hard to write. I do not like letting people down. While people may let us down on this earth, we can remain confident that we have a God who will never let us down. God is faithful, and He keeps His promises to us each and every time.

One of the greatest promises Jesus ever made to His followers was in John 14. While He shared a meal with them, He said, "There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am" (verses 2-3). Knowing His death was imminent, it was important to Jesus that His disciples knew that He would be preparing for them to join Him in Heaven. What comfort this promise must have brought His disciples after His death! Because of this teaching from Jesus, His disciples could live with the promise Jesus was preparing for the day they would join Him in Heaven.

My friend, Jesus' promise in John 14 is true for you today, too. Jesus is preparing a place for each one of His followers in Heaven. If you have placed your faith in Him, this includes you. He's preparing for you and awaiting the day when you are with Him forever, just as He is for all of those who are following Him. The day that we meet Him face-to-face and join Him in Heaven will be the greatest day, but until then, we can live with the hope and confidence that He is getting ready for us, and when the time comes, He will welcome us better than any person has ever welcomed us before.

Moving Toward Action

Spend some time writing a prayer to God. Thank Him for His faithfulness. Thank Him for being a God who keeps His promises. Thank Him that in a world where so many things are inconsistent and people let us down, He will never fail you. Praise God that He is always faithful, even when we are faithless!

Going Deeper

John 14:1-14 (NLT)

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”

“No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”

Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!
