I Quit: Week 2 - Wednesday

For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. Psalm 100:5

From the very beginning of time, the enemy set out to spread the lie that God is not good. He convinced Adam and Eve that God was not good in the Garden of Eden. Still today, the enemy is seeking to convince us that God is not good. Despite the enemy’s lies and schemes, we know that God is, indeed, good. The question is, how will we respond to that lie? Will we believe it and complain and grumble against Him, or will we trust Him and His goodness?

The writer of Psalm 100 reminds us of God’s goodness and how to respond in light of His goodness. He begins this Psalm saying, “Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!” (verse 1). He then explains how we can shout with joy to the Lord by worshiping "with gladness" and "singing with joy" (verse 2). The following command the writer of this Psalm gives is, “Acknowledge that the Lord is God! (verse 3). Part of acknowledging that He is God is remembering that “He made us” and “we are His people, the sheep of His pasture” (verse 3). The final command the Psalmist gives in Psalm 100 is, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving by praising Him and His name. Why can we “shout with joy to the Lord, acknowledge that He is God, and “enter into His gates with thanksgiving?” The writer of Psalm 100 tells us why. He says, “For the Lord is good” (verse 5). Next, he tells us two reasons why God is good. God is good because “His unfailing love continues forever, and His faithfulness continues to each generation” (verse 5). Indeed, God is good because His love and faithfulness are never-ending. These are just two of the reasons why God is good and worthy of our praise.

God is always good. Even when our circumstances are not, we can look to Him and His never-ending goodness. His love is boundless, and His faithfulness is never-ending. Because He is good, we can trust Him and praise Him in all circumstances instead of giving in to complaining.

Moving Toward Action

Take time to write out a prayer of praise to God. Praise Him for His goodness. Specifically, praise Him for how He has been good to you. Declare to Him that you believe that He is good and that He will always be good. Let this attitude of praise carry you throughout your day and keep you from having an attitude of complaining.
